Pillars of the Valley

The monument, located near the St. Louis City SC soccer stadium, is part of the Brickline Greenway revitalization project. Made from black granite, it features hourglass-shaped pedestals and engraved quotations, symbolizing the enduring stories of Mill Creek Valley. Transporting the massive granite sections over 775 miles was a significant challenge. Each of the three pieces per pedestal exceeded 32 cubic feet and weighed over 5,600 pounds. Mobile cranes with reinforced nylon straps were employed to set each piece in place at the installation site. Over 1,000 square feet of Coldspring Mesabi Black granite was used for the eight hourglass pedestals, with an additional 420 square feet used for the plinth.
