Completed in 1904, The Metro Tunnel was part of Saint Louis city’s first light rail system. The underground transit route reflects the city’s early advancements in urban transportation and remains a testament to the era’s engineering prowess as it continues to operate today.
As part of a St. Louis MetroLink repair project, the restoration of the Metro Tunnel focused on structural repairs through means of reconstruction of load bearing arches and Walls. Additional stability was achieved with extensive tuckpointing, and epoxy injections. Overall, this work enhanced the functionality and safety of the tunnel while preserving its historical character, architectural integrity, and honored legacy.
